Thanks for visiting. Today, this is a short post (hopefully).
USING A MICROPHONE: For the first time ever, I am using a cheap yet very good Shure microphone. It’s an MV5 Shure that plugs directly into my Android phone. Wow, the recording is much better than ever before.
My two guitar demos for this month are “It Was a Very Good Year” by Frank Sinatra and “I Never Picked Cotton” by Johnny Cash (but written by Bobbie George and Charlie Williams).
Demo – Frank Sinatra’s “It was a Very Good Year” – 1965
This is from Wikipedia.
I first heard “It was a Very Good Year” in stereo at a grade school friend’s house in stereo. Wow. I always remembered it.
Here’s my version of the “It Was a Very Good Year”.
- 2017 Epiphone Les Paul Special Express. This is a black 3/4 electric guitar I keep within arm’s reach of my desk.
- Capo on the 4th fret. Frank Sinatra was a tensor and I am also.
- Peavy Vypyr VIP-1 amp on some type of clean setting.
- Shure MV5 microphone.
- Recorded on my Android phone: It’s a Samsung 20 I believe.
Demo – Johnny Cash’s “I Never Picked Cotton”
Johnny didn’t write it. It was written by Bobby George and Charlie Williams in 1970. Roy Clark recorded it in 1969 or 1970.
Johnny Cash recorded “I Never Picked Cotton” on November 05, 1996. I heard the song first from Johnny Cash. Listening to Roy Clark and then Johnny Cash, I prefer the Johnny Cash version of the song.
Here’s my version of the song 🙂
- 2015 Epiphone Les Paul Special II LE.
- Capo on the 3rd fret.
- Peavy Vypyr VIP-1 amp on some type of echo setting.
- Shure MV5 microphone.
- Recorded on my Android phone: It’s a Samsung 20 I believe.
20 of my friends joined me in singing this song on my 60th birthday. Now, at age 73, after 8 months practicing guitar, I can play it.
Are you a Shoshin Guitarist?
Are you a guitarist, of any skill level, who approaches playing guitar with a “beginner’s mind”?
Hope so.
