How to Keep Your Guitar From Sliding Down Your Leg for Ten Bucks

$10 dollars (U.S.) and my guitar doesn’t slip down my thigh anymore.

Guitar Problems Have Solutions

You can’t really solve a problem until you define it.

As a beginner guitarist I play guitar sitting down. The guitar rests on my right thigh (I am right handed).

My electric guitars kept sliding down my thigh whether I wore shorts or blue jeans. How do I eliminate this problem?

Strumming requires a Guitar Perpendicular to the Floor

That’s what Andy Guitar taught me (thanks Andy).

My guitar strumming is poorly done so I began researching how to strum.

Andy Guitar in his Strumming Course pointed out how strumming is best when your guitar is close to your body and not sliding down your thigh. The guitar should be at a 90 degree angle to the floor. Basically a guitar that’s purely vertical to the ground.

The solution to the sliding guitar is coming soon. Keep reading.

Don’t Be the Guitarist who Strums with a nearly Flat Guitar

That doesn’t work well.

You’ve met these people in class. But I don’t dare correct them on their guitar posture.

I can only correct my own guitar posture.

A Ten Dollar Piece of Leather Prevents Sliding Guitar Syndrome

Yes, I ordered a brown leather square from Amazon.

“What is in the envelope?”, said my wife.

Something for the guitar I said. And she sighed a bit.

Here’s the picture and link to Amazon for buying this item.

The 8.5 inch x 11 inch leather rectangle worked perfectly.

I placed it on my right thigh, close to my body, and then tested my guitars with the square. No slippage.

Even my slippery Jet JS300 guitar with its thin body worked perfectly.

Now when I strum, I have correct guitar posture.

Allen Matthews’, a Classical Guitarist, had the “sliding guitar” answers

Visit Allen Mathews on the Internet if you wish to read more. I give him full credit for leading me to ways to eliminate “sliding guitars” on my thigh.

Update: $10 Leather Patch Improved my Guitar Playing

7.8.2024: Absolutely. Playing guitar is more fun and when things are fun you do them better.

My guitars don’t slip off my right thigh and they stay in position better, perpendicular to the floor.

Since my guitars don’t slip on my leg, my strumming and guitar playing has improved slightly. It only cost $10 for a leather patch from Amazon.

Buy a brown leather square today. Any color will do, just make sure it’s leather.
